Vishwa Patel is an emerging interdisciplinary artist and curator based in Toronto. She is in her final year of the Drawing and Painting program at OCAD University and works primarily in acrylic painting, oil painting, watercolour, gouache, embroidery, printmaking, and photography.

Vishwa's current body of work and research is highly influenced by her cultural heritage stemming from India. She explores symmetry and sacred geometry, fluid cultural identities, and a nuanced exploration of the immigrant experience whilst growing up in the diaspora -- bridging Western and Eastern philosophies and ideas. Her artistic practice is deeply influenced by art history -- drawing from Indian textile design, miniature painting, and temple carvings. Using researched and developed methodologies, Vishwa aims to create a dialogue between traditional techniques and contemporary issues. Her work offers a fresh perspective on cultural convergence and the aesthetics of identity-- focusing on a non-political and decolonial framework.

After partaking in an exhibition fellowship, Vishwa has co-curated multiple exhibitions and was the lead curator on four of them. She has also participated in an artist residency in Thailand, and took part in multiple group exhibitions around the Greater Toronto Area including the DesignTO festival and the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario). She is passionate about community arts programming and is on the committee of Friends of Global South Asia at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), organizes artist markets for emerging artists, and is a mentor to aspiring artists in Toronto.
